Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Khalid

Biography

Muhammad Shoaib Khalid received his B.Sc. Degree in Electronic Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan in 2002, MS Degree in Electronic, Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering from Hanyang University, South Korea in 2010 and his PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering from State Key Laboratory of Advanced Electromagnetic Engineering and Technology (AEET) at School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), P.R. China in 2015. His MS and PhD both are funded by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. His PhD research on “Energy Management and Stability of Microgrids” has developed and analyzed the LVRT capability through large PV system for grid reliability and stability, multiagent system (MAS) for stable operation of microgrid during fault conditions, and transient voltage stability index for microgrid containing renewable energy sources.

Muhammad Shoaib Khalid is currently employed as an Assistant professor at the US Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCASE-E) of the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar. He is currently responsible for teaching and assisting MS and PhD students in their research projects and also working on national and international level projects.

Dr Abdul Basit

Biography

Abdul Basit received his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from University of Engineering & Technology (UET), Peshawar, Pakistan in 2006, M.Sc. degree in electrical power engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden in 2011 and his PhD from the Department of Wind Energy of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2015. His PhD research on ‘Wind Power Plant System Services’ has developed and analysed the control strategies which can increase the WPPs capability to provide system services, such as active power balancing control, in a modern power system with large scale integration wind power. The PhD study proposes a novel and practical approach of integrating the WPPs control into the AGC.
Abdul Basit is currently employed as an Assistant professor at U.S. Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E) of the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar. He is responsible for teaching and assisting masters’ student in their research projects and is working on the following applied research projects:

  1. Design and implementation of robust control for power generator and its integration with battery backed up inverters (renewable energies)
  2. Design and development of electronic load controller (ELC) for micro hydro turbines

His research interests are on protection, power factor improvement, power system operation, renewable power integration and automatic generation control.
