Dr. Irshad Hussain

Biography

Dr. Irshad Hussain has recently joined US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E) at UET, Peshawar, as a Professor of Renewable Energy Systems, while on sabbatical leave from LUMS for one year. His major role would be to promote research culture at USPCAS-EP, mentor young faculty members and graduate students, develop networking and help organize National and International Conferences.

Dr. Hussain is among the founding members of SBA School of Science & Engineering (SBASSE) and has played a key role to lead the development of Chemistry Department at LUMS. He has led the Chemistry department during 2010-2016 at SBASSE that has emerged as the most prominent school in the region to bring a paradigm shift in Science & Engineering Education. Approx. 40% of SBASSE graduating BS students are offered fully funded graduate admission offers from the world best institutions including Harvard, MIT, UC Berkeley, Princeton, Yale, Chicago, Cornell, Rice, Cambridge, Oxford, UIUC and CMU etc., a phenomenon not much common in Pakistan before, and this ratio over 90 % for Chemistry undergraduate majors interested in higher studies. Prior to joining LUMS, Dr. Hussain spearheaded research and development program in Nanobiotechnology at National Institute for Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad, and developed a Nanotech group/facility that is now one among the few most productive Nanotech groups in Pakistan. He has published over 70 research articles in prominent journals including Nat Mater, Science Advances, Angew Chem Int Edit, Adv Mater, J Am Chem Soc, Small, Chem Commun, Langmuir and Nanoscale etc. Dr. Hussain has developed several effective research collaborations with the leading nanotechnology/nanomaterials groups in USA, Europe, China, Saudi Arabia (KAUST) and several National Institutions in Pakistan. Dr. Hussain has got several competitive National/International research grants to explore the applications of metal nanoparticles/nanoclusters in renewable energy technologies, water, environment and biomedical sciences. Dr. Hussain has also served as the Chair of National Nanotech Experts Panel at Pakistan Council for Science & Technology and was awarded Gold Medals in Chemistry by Pakistan Academy of Sciences in 2007 (Prof. Atta-ur-Rehman Gold Medal in Chemistry) & 2014 (PAS Gold Medal in Chemistry)

Dr. Muhammad Noman

Biography

Muhammad Noman has received his B. Sc. Degree from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SEECS), National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. In 2009, he attained his Master’s degree in Microelectronics and Photonics from Hogskolan I Halmstad, Sweden. His master’s research was mainly focused on Photonic crystal design. In 2012, he pursued his doctoral studies at the department of Electronics, Politecnico di Torino, Italy. During his Ph.D. he worked on the synthesis, fabrication and characterization of Novel Materials for Electrochemiluminescence devices. He got the best Ph.D. research award, 2015 following which he has been offered post-doctorate fellowship at the same university. He has worked in collaboration with different institutes including Houston Methodist Research Institute (Texas, USA), Tyndall National University (Ireland) and university of Parma (Italy). Since February 2016, he is working as an Assistant Professor at Renewable Energy Engineering department, U.S. Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E), University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar. Beside teaching and supervising M.Sc. research projects, he is currently involved in two different U.S. funded projects that includes Mechanical testing of PV modules and zero energy buildings. Throughout his academic carrier he has been very active in Extra-curricular activities and based on that he has been assigned an additional responsibility of being Incharge of Sports and Event at USPCAS-E, UET Peshawar.
