U.S.-PAKISTAN CENTER FOR ADVANCED STUDIES IN ENERGY USPCAS-E UET PESHAWAR MERIT AND NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIP

INTRODUCTION
USPCAS-E will administer Merit and Need Based Scholarship where a student who gets admission in MS and Ph.D. program will be awarded with scholarships on need basis. This scholarship is aimed to elevate the socio-economic position of the needy & deserving students by providing access to quality education through needs-based scholarships. USAID has its commitment to play its role in the progress and development of the higher education sector especially including the field of energy.
According to the national income statistics (by GOP), 80 percent of the families in Pakistan cannot afford the expenses of sending even one boarder to a local public university. Pakistan finished last among a group of 40 countries ranked by the Percentage Share of Enrollment in Private Higher Education (A study by World Bank, 1994) , (Higher Education: The Lessons of Experience, 1994).  

OBJECTIVES
a) To enable the academically qualified, yet financially needy, Pakistani students to continue    university studies in selected private and public universities of Pakistan in the fields of Energy and Engineering
b) To enhance the institutional capacity of the Higher Education Commission of the  Government of Pakistan and local public and private sector universities.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
a) The applicant must be a Pakistani/AJK National
Note:
50% Female Seats: Women's participation in the education sector is very low. This activity will ensure that at least 50% of the awarded scholarships go to women, especially those coming from remote and vulnerable areas of Pakistan, who are financially needy, and meet admission criteria of UET Peshawar.
b)  Students need to compete for securing admission in as per admission policy of the institution and be enrolled in Graduate (2 Years) or Post Graduate (3 Years) program
c)  The eligibility of a candidate is linked to neediness of the candidate as determined & assessed by the financial background of his/her family. Scholarships will be awarded to those students who fulfill the UET admission criteria and are needy.

Explanation:  
Suppose, 50 students have qualified the admission criteria of UET Peshawar and 20 scholarships are available. Scholarship will be awarded to 20 students amongst these 50 qualified students on purely need base.
Those who are on top of the merit and might not get scholarship either they don't fulfill the need criteria or the first twenty slots have been filled by needy then they might get admission on their own expenses.
The exchange program to US is purely merit based. The criteria will be displayed on USPCAS-E website http://uetpeshawar.edu.pk/USPCAS-E upon approval from competent authority. Those students who are enrolled at USPCAS-E and are not getting scholarships can be part of exchange program if they fulfill the merit criteria for the exchange program.

HOW TO APPLY
The deserving students can obtain complete Scholarship Application Form USPCAS-E office or can be downloaded from http://uetpeshawar.edu.pk/USAID-fundedUSPCAS-E.
The Scholarship Form will be submitted along with supporting documents to the same office after completion.
Students need to get admission in any one of the approved disciplines at U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy USPCAS-E UET Peshawar as per admission criteria.

SCHOLARSHIP COMPOSITION

Comprehensive scholarship offered under this program provides fund for the following expenses:
    Tuition Fee
         Stipend will be given to cover the following expenses:
    Lodging
    Transportation
    Books
    Other Academics Costs
