The Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BOASAR) in its meeting approved two Master’ degree programs for U.S.-PCAS-E from academic session (2015-16). The BOASAR held on 17th June was presided over by Dean Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Noor Muhammad while Director Postgraduate Studies, Dr Waqar ShAah, Professors, Heads of Departments, nominated members of BAOSAR and staff of USPCAS-E attended the meeting.
The meeting in light of agenda items approved M.Sc Electrical Energy Engineering System and M.Sc. Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion while making few changes in the course titles and recommended both for approval in the forthcoming Academic Council. The meeting endorsed the composition of Board of Studies with a suggestion to add academic and experts based on relevance to energy field.
Dr Najeeb Ullah, Director USPCAS E made a detailed presentation about the scope of center. He said the Center, funded by USAID at the cost of $15m is working in energy with the US partner university, Arizona State University which finalized the curriculum of M.Sc programs. “While there will be fully-funded scholarships for enrolled students on USAID’s merit and need based program, special emphasis will be given to women who will be offered 50% seats for each program”, he remarked. Dr. Najeeb informed that the Center has already got funding from Directorate of Science and Technology Govt. of KP to initiate solar-electrification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting also appreciated the role of UET to successfully establishing the center and applauded the USPACS-E’s instrumental role in raising UET’s ranking by HEC in 2015. The meeting also recommended forwarding the M.Sc. courses to the Academic Council.
