During fall, 2016 session 30 students including 8 female students were offered admission.  Dr. Najeeb Ullah in his welcome remarks highlighted the mission and vision of the center. He said that major factor in the quality of education is its relevance to the demands of the labor market. Learners and their families typically make the choice to invest in education because they believe doing so will provide them with the skills, knowledge and social capital they need to build a better life for themselves. He further mentioned that, Pakistani higher education institutions, however, have not optimized their responsiveness to local market demands, leaving many graduates unable to meet employers’ needs and thereby make their fullest contribution to Pakistan’s economy and national development.

Mr. Ahmed Sohail technical Advisor from Arizona State University, appreciated USIAD approach of selecting American University to provide relevant support to Pakistani Higher Education Institutes thereby revamping academic standards.  He also highlighted the ASU support in developing curriculum for existing and new academic programs.

Dr. Abdul Basit, Assistant Professor Electrical Energy System Engineering briefed students about the focus of the program and its salient features. He also mentioned that, the necessary dialogue between employers and universities in the design of internships and the successful completion of internships will serve to improve the alignment between employers and university graduates.
