A two-day International Conference on Sustainable Energy in Pakistan was launched at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad. The conference was jointly organized by the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar (UET) and NUST. To enhance the competence level of the thermal system engineers, U.S.- Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy at UET Peshawar organized one-day seminar on MATLAB. Around 64% of Pakistan’s currently electricity generation comes from thermal energy resources. Keeping in view the vital role of thermal energy and its resources in Pakistan’s energy sector, USPCAS-E UET Peshawar started a dedicated program in “Thermal System Engineering”. The program has been designed to help in solving the industry’s problems.
The USAID-funded USPCASE program implemented by Arizona State University organized a professional development workshop for UET Peshawar and NUST faculty in active learning methodologies. A total of 31 faculty including 3 females participated in the training to learn how they can improve classroom learning to better educate engineers who will excel as designers, problem-solvers, critical thinkers, group workers, and leaders. This three-day workshop (January 15-17) delivered by Dr. Peter Rillero, ASU faculty, is Phase I (of three) of a comprehensive program leading to Advancing Instructional Methods (AIM) Certification. Officials from Arizona State University (ASU), the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) joined senior officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Islamabad for a send-off reception for U.S.-Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies in Energy students and faculty departing to ASU and Oregon State University (OSU) for the spring semester exchange program.
