USPCAS-E organized a one-day training on “Solar design, installation, and performance measurement” on 24th January 2018. The training was given by Mr. Faiz Muhammad Bhutta from Tech Consulting. Mr. Faiz Bhutta is the first founder Chairman of Pakistan Solar Association and First Chapter Chairman of REAP. Officials from KPOGCL, SMEDA, Planning and Development Department, KP and NBP also joined the one-day training held at USPCAS-E.

The types of solar systems, solar system components, functions, integration, solar quality standards, solar systems operation & maintenance and solar system performance analysis were discussed. The training was interactive with question/answer sessions. The Master trainer also discussed on-grid and off-grid systems. The training included comprehensive market-based discussion, talk on batteries and discussion based on practical experiences.

The one-day training acted as a strong linkage between academia and industry. The participants got a thorough insight regarding the rules, regulations, and policies in place regarding the solar system. Overall, the training greatly enhanced the capacity of the participants.

U.S. Pakistan Center For Advanced studies in Energy organized a one-day training workshop on “Introduction to LabVIEW” on 29th January 2018 from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. Expert trainer from National Instruments (NI), Mr. Bilal Ashraf, provided the training to the participants. NI hardware and software technology is currently being used by more than 35,000 companies and has improved education in more than 6,000 universities around the world.

The one-day training workshop was attended by the electrical department students, lab engineers and faculty of USPCAS-E. The workshop equipped the participants with the basics of LabVIEW. The trainer briefed regarding the LabVIEW software and the fields in which it is popularly used.

An exercise manual was provided to all the participants which helped to build up the proficiency with LabVIEW and was also a step towards preparing the participants for NI LabVIEW certification exams. In total, 8 exercises from the manual were practiced by the participants.  The workshop aided in solidifying the comprehension of theoretical concepts and prepared the participants for advanced research and careers. The skills that were learned in the workshop scale to industry enabling the participants to become innovators of tomorrow.

At the end of each exercise a practice assignment was also given to the participants. Exercises included temperature simulation VI, Arrays, Graphs and Charts, File input/output, Sub VI’s, acquiring real temperature, case structures, and shift registers.

The students stated that the LabVIEW workshop was highly beneficial for advanced research and it further enhanced their capacity in the field of engineering.
