U.S. Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy, University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar is a USAID funded new initiative with the mission to support Pakistan's economic development by strengthening relevance and responsiveness of university products, including applied and policy research and skilled graduates, to the needs of public and private sectors.

The Center invites applications from Pakistani nationals for the following positions on contract basis. The requisite qualification and experience is given below. Receptionist

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in similar position with an INGO, NGO and/or government project of similar nature.
  • Proven experience of managing front desk.

Program Background Summary: USPCAS-E UET is a five year USAID funded US $ 15 million initiatives to support the establishment of National Centre for Advanced Studies in energy. The program aims to provide a state of the art, modern applied and policy research Centre located in a Pakistani public university and widely recognized both for its excellence and as a repository for knowledge and expertise in its specialty area.

USPCAS-E UET has five broad components:

  • Efficient governance and leadership;
  • Effective curriculum reform; Internationally competitive multidisciplinary graduate and post graduate training programs;
  • Scholarship and Exchange Program
  • Identification, design and dissemination of the most relevant and highest quality applied and policy research to meet a particular sector’s present and future needs;
  • Technical and financial sustainability of CAS interventions through strong links with industry, civil society and government.

The purpose of each CAS is to serve industry and government needs for relevant research and skilled professionals in the areas of food security/agriculture, water and energy to meet development challenges and support Pakistan’s economic growth.

Job Overview/Summary

The Receptionist greets and directs visitors and telephone callers. As such, a primary role of the receptionist is to project a positive and professional image of USPCAS-E. The receptionist also provides general clerical support services, as requested or assigned.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Answer all incoming calls and handle caller’s inquiries whenever possible.
  • Re-direct calls as appropriate and take adequate messages when required.
  • Greet & Guide visitors and facilitate their access to information related to USPCAS-E.
  • Operate and manage the telephone switchboard in accordance with appropriate protocol.
  • Be familiar with relevant websites and effective use of Internet, provide accurate USPCAS-E related information to requestors.
  • Management of the USPCAS-E0 publications at the reception area.
  • Register all incoming documents/letters by proper stamp, receiving date, subject/project file number and responsible person i.e. name of the deliverer.
  • Distribute timely and correctly all correspondences to staff concerned.
  • Manage outgoing faxes and mails through post office and courier service and maintain good records of them.
  • Collect and update USPCAS-E staff and students contact information on a monthly basis and ensure all data and information is correct and accurate.
  • Maintain safe and clean reception area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Any other duty assigned by the supervisor.

Very strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required

Electrician

(1-Position)

  • An Electrical Diploma, Certificate or any related qualification
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in an office setting

Job Overview/Summary

The overall scope of the position is to maintain the efficiency of the electrical equipment in the organization without any interruption of the work procedure and repair electronic components.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems.
  • Install electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit breaker panels etc.)
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components
  • Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them
  • Prevent break-down of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning, circuits etc.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Using tools, calibration equipment, and wires to build electrical systems
  • Testing existing wiring for safety and quality control.
  • Updating older electrical systems to meet the current codes and safety regulations required.
  • Repairing broken equipment and making suggestions on newer methods of delivering electricity that replace previous standards.
  • Assessing and improving electrical systems for an increased demand, such as for adding electronic devices or large appliances.
  • Modifying existing electrical systems to meet the standards for more environmentally-friendly technologies.
  • Reading blueprints to learn where panel boards, circuits, outlets and other electrical components are found or will be positioned.
  • Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Language and Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of Urdu and other local languages strongly preferred.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
